Tower Bank announces the release of the Martin's Mill Bridge limited edition print. Painted by local artist, Mark Twain Noe, the Martin's Mill Bridge is an exclusive print featured in the Bank's Gallery of History. The entire Gallery of History collection of paintings will be on display at the Greencastle office during Old Home Week.
Prints are available for purchase at the Greencastle and McConnellsburg offices for the cost of $50. Proceeds from the print will support the Greencastle-Antrim Old Home Week Association, American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Greencastle and American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Fulton County, United Way of Franklin County, and American Heart Association Mason Dixon Heart Walk.
Located in Antrim Township and spanning the east branch of the Conococheague Creek, Martin's Mill Bridge was constructed in 1849 under the direction of Jacob Shirk. A local landmark, the bridge has faced near destruction on three separate occasions; most notably when it was washed downstream from the flood waters of Hurricane Agnes in 1972. Formed in 1958, the Martin's Mill Bridge Association has been instrumental in the preservation of the bridge. In 2003, the Association presented a deed of dedication to Antrim Township, who continues to assume responsibility for the bridge and adjacent park grounds which remain open to the public and are accessible by walking. Recognized in 1974 by the National Register of Historic places, Martin's Mill Bridge stands as a symbol of local history and triumph, saved by the community members who rallied to preserve it.
